He is a recognized Russian scientist in the field of occupational medicine and cardiology, a highly qualified doctor. In 1994, S.N. Filimonov successfully defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences, and in 2007 - his doctoral thesis on predicting the risk of coronary heart disease among workers in the coal and metallurgical industries.
Filimonov's professional and scientific interests include such areas as maintaining and strengthening public health, improving the quality and longevity of human life, strengthening the country's labor potential, improving the healthcare system and medical science in Russia, and training highly qualified scientific and medical personnel.
Sergey Nikolaevich is the head of complex fundamental research topics, has repeatedly acted as an official opponent of doctoral and candidate's works, from 2012 to 2017 he was a member of the dissertation Council D 001.056.01 at the Federal State Budgetary Budgetary Institution "Scientific Research Institute of Complex Problems of Hygiene and Occupational Diseases", since 2020 he has been a member of the Dissertation Council 21.2.046.06 at the Novosibirsk State Medical University" of the Ministry of Health of Russia.
Filimonov S.N. was the scientific supervisor of 4 PhD theses and the scientific consultant of 1 doctoral dissertation. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal "Medicine in Kuzbass", a member of the editorial board and executive secretary of the journal "Occupational Medicine and Industrial Ecology". Member of the International Association of Doctors and Occupational Medicine Specialists. Approved as an expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences to evaluate scientific developments in clinical and preventive medicine (RAS Order No. 10110-1222 dated 12/30/20).
