Abstract
The most common causes of liver cirrhosis in women are viral and autoimmune hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Although pregnancy and cirrhosis are a rare combination, it appears to have become more common in recent decades due to improved treatment of cirrhosis, increased awareness of cirrhosis following the introduction of screening in high-risk groups, and the availability of assisted reproductive technologies. For physicians and patients, the impact of cirrhosis on the course of pregnancy and underlying medical conditions is important when deciding whether to plan and carry a pregnancy to term. Pregnancy in women with cirrhosis is associated with a high risk of complications, including maternal and perinatal mortality.
This article presents a clinical case of a multiple pregnancy with unspecified liver cirrhosis.
