Abstract

Breast cancer (BC) diagnosed during lactation is a complex medical and social problem. This disease belongs to the broader group of so-called «gestational» or «pregnancy-associated» cancers, which includes cases detected during pregnancy, in the first year after childbirth, and during any period of breastfeeding. Given the trend towards late childbearing in developed countries, the incidence of this condition is increasing and ranges from 15 to 35 cases per 100000 births, according to various sources. The average age of patients is around 33 years.
The complexity of managing such patients is due to physiological changes in the mammary gland, which mask the symptoms, the aggressive course of the tumor process, and the need to consider the interests of both the mother and the child. In this article, we will explore the clinical features, diagnosis, and current approaches to the treatment of breast cancer during lactation, based on the latest scientific evidence.
