Abstract

Gastric cancer remains one of the most significant problems in oncology, ranking fifth in incidence and third in mortality worldwide. This article analyzes the features of gastric cancer in the Primorsky Krai, where the reported incidence rate reaches 23.7 cases per 100,000 population.
The aim of the study – to characterize the pathomorphological features of gastric malignancies taking into account age-related characteristics.
Materials and methods. A retrospective study was performed from January to December 2022, including analysis of 62 medical records of patients with gastric cancer treated at the Medical Center of the Far Eastern Federal University. The mean age of the patients was 62.8 ± 10.4 years. The sample consisted of 41 men (66.1%) and 21 women (33.9%).
Results. It was found that the majority of patients had a history of metabolic disorders such as overweight and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The most frequent localization of the tumor process was the gastric cardia. Tumor sizes and disease stages were found to differ significantly depending on patient age. Intraoperative complications were more frequently recorded in elderly patients.
Conclusion. The obtained results confirm the need to take into account age-related features in the diagnosis and choice of treatment tactics for gastric cancer.
