Abstract

Negative demographic trends in the Russian Federation necessitate studies of long-term outcomes of the novel coronavirus disease among the working-age (WA) population.
The aim of the research – the study aims to compare morbidity rates and causes in the adult WA population of the Kemerovo Region in the early post-pandemic period with those registered in 2011-2019.
Materials and methods. We calculated incidence and prevalence rates in the WA population of the Kemerovo Region, determined long-term means for 2011-2019, as well as growth rates of incidence, prevalence, and chronicity rates in 2023 relative to the pre-pandemic period. We then assessed the statistical significance of differences in the indicators between the selected time spans and compared the structure of incidence and prevalence in the pre- and post-pandemic periods.
Results. A statistical increase in incidence and prevalence rates was detected only for diseases of the respiratory system. We observed a significant decrease in incidence rates of most disease categories in 2023. However, the dynamics of prevalence rates in the working-age population of the Kemerovo Region in 2023 demonstrated divergent trends. For certain disease categories, a statistically significant decrease in incidence and prevalence was accompanied by a significant increase in the chronicity rate. Statistical differences were identified between the incidence and prevalence structures in 2023 and the pre-pandemic period.
Conclusion. Health changes in the working-age population of the Kemerovo Region identified in the post-pandemic period should be taken into account when developing a regional healthcare and public health promotion programs. Special attention should be paid to disease categories demonstrating a statistically significant increase in morbidity and chronicity rates during medical examinations.
