Abstract
Modern medicine is at the forefront of innovation. In recent years, various medical fields have been increasingly integrating elements of artificial intelligence, biotechnologies, and digital health solutions (telemedicine). However, alongside these positive advancements, new challenges have emerged for healthcare professionals, with decreasing patient compliance being a primary concern.
Objective – to analyze current literature addressing the issue of declining patient compliance.
Materials and methods. An analysis of the PubMed, e-library, and Cyberleninka scientific databases was conducted. The keywords used for the search were: compliance, adherence, patients, parents, children. The search covered a 10-year period (2016-2026). Literature sources were excluded from the analysis based on the following criteria: lack of full free access, absence of a complete publication version, title irrelevance, and subject heading mismatch. The initial search yielded the following number of sources: PubMed – 4,174 sources; e-library – 1,103; Cyberleninka – 391 sources. Of these, 60 publications met the search criteria, while 5608 literature sources were excluded from the analysis.
Results. Alongside the benefits of scientific, technological, and digital progress, healthcare professionals face new and integrated challenges, chief among them being decreasing patient compliance. The average rate of adherence to medical recommendations for patients in the outpatient setting does not exceed 50%. The level of compliance among parents in pediatric practice varies significantly, ranging from 11% to 93%. This variability results from the influence of multiple individuals within the child's social environment (parents, grandparents, etc.) on the implementation of preventive and therapeutic measures.
Conclusion. Addressing the current trend of declining treatment adherence in pediatric patients may be achieved through the implementation of modern approaches that actively involve both healthcare professionals and the patients themselves.
