Yuri Ivanovich Rovda

 

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Doctor of Russia.

He was born on June 4, 1949, in the village of Novotroitsk, Kemerovo Region. In 1973, he graduated from the Pediatric Department of the Kemerovo Medical Institute. After graduation, he worked as a pediatrician at the Regional Clinical Hospital in Kemerovo. From 1978 to 1983, he served as the Head of the Pediatric Department at the Central City Hospital of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk. He has been working at the Kemerovo State Medical Institute (now the Kemerovo State Medical University) since 1983.
Starting as an assistant at the Department of Pediatrics, he went on to defend his PhD and doctoral dissertations, and held positions as an associate professor and professor at the department. From 2003 to 2019, he served as the head of the Department of Hospital Pediatrics. Since 2019, he has been a professor at the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology.  Throughout all the years of his work at the department, he combines scientific and pedagogical activities with medical consulting in the departments of the regional clinical hospital named after Belyaev and medical children's institutions in Kemerovo.
For several years, he held the position of Chief Specialist in pediatric cardiology in practical healthcare. His developments on metabolic syndrome, purinosis, and hypertension in children have priority in the Russian Federation. For the first time in the Russian Federation, he invented (patent) and introduced a method for diagnosing visceral fat deposition in children by echocardiography, introduced many new scientific and practical techniques (prevention of purine metabolism disorders, methods of pre-nosological diagnosis and prevention of arterial hypertension and metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents, alternative methods of prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, allergic dermatitis in children – ozone therapy, etc.). A new scientific direction is being actively developed on the problem of clinical and morphological features of accidental thymus involution in various pathological and borderline conditions in children; the problem of the consequences of thymectomy during heart surgery. As a result of the study of these problems, 3 inventions were approved by Rospatent. 
He conducts active educational and pedagogical work among pediatricians in the Kemerovo Region. He organized and carried out fieldwork by medical teams to consult patients and train doctors on the spot. He was a member of the Dissertation Councils in Pediatrics at the Siberian State Medical University and the Altai State Medical University, a member of the Editorial Councils of the Speransky Pediatrics and Mother and Child in Kuzbass journals, and the Chairman of the Cyclic Scientific and Problematic Commission "Problems of Pediatrics and Reproductive Health" at the Kemerovo State Medical University. The department organized certification courses in Pediatrics.
He is the author of more than 200 scientific articles (more than half of which are included in the List of Peer-Reviewed Journals of the Higher Attestation Commission), numerous methodological manuals, and a monograph on atopic dermatitis and purinosis. Under his supervision, 7 PhD and 1 doctoral dissertations have been defended.
He has been awarded the state badge "Excellence in Healthcare" and the titles "Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation," "Honorary Professor of Kuzbass," and "For Faith and Good," as well as the medals "Aleksey Leonov" and "For Service to Kuzbass."
