Abstract
In recent decades, bioimpedance analysis of body composition has received renewed interest from healthcare professionals due to its simplicity and expanding understanding of its practical significance in various fields of medicine. Focusing on the history and methodology of this method, this article presents the results of a systematic review of scientific literature on the use of bioimpedance analysis of body composition in various diseases and conditions. The review results demonstrate that assessing a wide range of body composition components, as well as characteristics of various types of metabolism and metabolic rates, is easily reproducible in medical settings across various specialties. The non-invasive nature, accuracy, and ease of use of this method allow it to be used both in large population studies and for preventive and individual examinations of various population groups. The ability to quickly obtain results on metabolic rate, protein, lipid, water, and mineral metabolism helps assess risks and prevent the development of diseases associated with metabolic disorders, and determines further treatment and the need for consultation with other specialists. This method is particularly useful in pediatric practice to identify potential risk factors and prevent pathological conditions and diseases in children and adolescents. Further study of this research method in both adults and children will not only identify diagnostic criteria for diseases but also accurately assess the parameters of bioimpedance body composition analysis for wider implementation in healthcare, physical medicine, and rehabilitation.
