Abstract

The widespread use of prenatal ultrasound has increased the detection rate of congenital ovarian cysts. Many of these cysts can be monitored with serial ultrasound examinations until they resolve or regress spontaneously. However, there is significant variability in the assessment and treatment of these lesions. Most cysts spontaneously regress within 12 months of birth, regardless of their sonographic findings. Despite the high risk of surgical intervention at birth, long-term outcomes are generally favorable.
