A REVIEW OF RESEARCH ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF APPLICATIONS FOR THE DIAGNOSTICATION OF NEONATAL JAUNDICE FROM PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES OF THE SCLERA AND SKIN
Main Article Content
Abstract
Neonatal jaundice occurs in 60-80% of newborns. Most often, it is physiological in nature and requires only observation. However, an excessive hourly increase in bilirubin in newborns may indicate pathological hyperbilirubinemia, for example, in newborns with isoimmune hemolytic disease for any of the blood factors, jaundice of prematurity, metabolic disorders, congenital infectious diseases, and the need for urgent examination and treatment. An elevated bilirubin level should be treated as a potentially dangerous condition that can have a harmful effect on the body, including leading to irreversible consequences in newborns.
This review article is devoted to the development of a new non-invasive method for diagnosing jaundice using photographic images of the skin and sclera of the human eye. Scientific articles in which this method was implemented using mobile applications are presented and described.
